There are things you expect to stock up on
Jump to Comments
When you’re in Mexico — beaded accessories, silver jewelry and tequila.

And then there are things you do not expect to stock up on when you’re in Mexico: oversized bat-winged sweaters…

and giant scarves. Both of which made it home in my suitcase. The sweater is from Shalom in Playa del Carmen, which you should stop into if you’re ever there. I have a feeling you’d like it.

The scarf is from a stall on Playa’s Fifth Avenue. And I should point out that it is made of — and I am not even kidding you — llama wool. Which might actually be something you would expect.
P.S. Add the Anthology on Facebook. Because it’s about time we were FBFFs.

Loving your Mexico posts! The only thing I know I’d be careful of when it comes to stocking up on local fashion is that I’d be scared I’d come out looking like Ugly Betty in a poncho and loads of beaded jewelry ;-) I had the same problem in Peru when every market was filled with the most tempting colorful scarves and shawls. I’d assume llama wool would be gorgeous and much softer though… kind of like alpaca?

Teresa — Thank heavens I brought such a gigantic suitcase, there’s no way I would have been able to cart back such bulky goods otherwise.
Hauteworld — It’s very soft. And with your eye for style, I doubt you’d look anything like Ugly Betty. Would love to go to Peru one day — sounds so gorgeous!

These are all such great finds! Have you been to Taxco? It’s like the silver jewelry mecca of Mexico, and a wonderful colonial town to wander around in to boot.

[...] My tangerine dress? It’s from Zara. My suitcase? It’s bulging full of ridiculously bulky sweaters and scarves. [...]
