Giveaway | BC Home + Garden Show, Tiffany Pratt Edition

Tiffany Pratt This Can Be Beautiful

This can be beautiful! It’s a mantra worth adopting, yes, but it’s also the title of designer Tiffany Pratt’s debut book. She’s a headlining presenter at the BC Home + Garden Show this weekend and I figure we could all use a little more colour in our lives so we’ve teamed up for a brand new giveaway.

Tiffany Pratt

This prize pack includes a copy of Tiffany Pratt’s book This Can Be Beautiful, a notebook from her collaboration with The Penny Paper Co., a set of coloured pencils, and two pairs of tickets to the BC Home + Garden Show happening February 22-26, 2017 at BC Place.

It’s basically everything you need to get inspired and then get it done.

Decor | Do you believe in furniture fate?

Brass mirror

Do you think it’s possible to conjure a thrifted find? Like, if you pray to the gods of ’80s furniture often enough, do you think they actually answer? It wasn’t long ago I posted about this brass mirror from CB2 (which is also a shelf, but let’s ignore those details for a moment). And now, at a Ukrainian church sale I find this shiny beauty, which is straight outta the ’80s, babies.

As of right this minute it’s hanging in my office, but I’m in the process of redoing it (I’m always in the process of redoing it) so who knows how long it will stay on this particular wall. I’ll keep you posted.

Pinstagram | Gallery Cafes

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

posing

Strike a pose. One of my recent trend segments + an outfit I’d pose all day in.

cafe

Cafe quality. A beautiful spot to meet a colleague-turned-friend-turned-client for lunch + some cafe vibes you could incorporate into your own home.

amys-walk

Reflections. A gorgeous day for Amy’s Ride and Walk, which honours a friend, benefits the Amy Hurn Scholarship and raises awareness for organ donor registration + beautiful shadows.

skylights

Sky light. A fox looks down at us from the rotunda at the Vancouver Art Gallery + a skylight that makes me want to replace my roof with stained glass.

pink-art

Epic collection. A wall of pink art at the Emily Carr University Student Art Sale + a legend who has no shortage of pink art.

Decor | Brass Tacks

black-brass2

I have a theory about decor trends: when you can only find something at a second-hand store for $17 or a highly curated online vintage shop for $7000, that trend is on the upswing.

Which brings me to black and brass (a combo I’ve long loved) done Hollywood regency style. I found a high gloss black cabinet at Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore a couple years ago. It was straight out of the ’70s in the best way possible — it has rounded edges, brass piping and matching brass hardware. It was in flawless shape, right down to the glass cabinet doors, as if someone had it in storage for decades and only just brought it out.

It cost me a whopping $17.

brass-furniture

Pamono has something similar (above left), though its price tag is much beefier and the shipping alone is $600 (then again it is coming from Belgium). And now, CB2 has come out with a brass mirror and shelf combo (above right) that has my (your?) name on it.

My new theory? You’ll be seeing a lot more of this look in stores. And maybe even in your home.

Pinstagram | So. Much. Denim.

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

Chambray shirt

Double denim. The perfect waiting-for-ice-cream outfit + the perfect doing-anything outfit.

Bar stools

Grab a seat. My kid making herself at home at le Marche St. George + bar stools I’d love to make myself at home on.

Babies and beasts

Day dreaming. Baby and the beast + another baby with a much smaller beast.

pink decor

Pretty in pink. Beautiful bedroom decor at The Cross Decor and Design (a Northill client) + beautiful pink decor.

plums

Claymation. A bowl handmade by Vancouver’s Golem Designs (here’s her Etsy site) + a dish handmade by someone who’s far more gifted in the kitchen than I am.

kids and dogs

Best friends. Competitors + cuddlers.

Denim for days

All denim everything. My Canadian ball gown (from Madewell) + a Canadian tuxedo of sorts.

Design | Modern Architecture Home Tour

naturalbuilders_chancellor_0134

I love my house. I’ve put a lot of love and (hired) labour into it over the years. But there’s a part of me that wants to tear it all down and build the kind of home you’d find featured in Dwell.

Or, say, the Vancouver Modern Architecture and Design Society.

park-house-1

Their fourth-annual tour takes place this weekend. It’s self-guided and takes you through five residences, almost like a collection of open houses that can never be yours.

So if you, like me, like to architorture yourself by exploring homes that will make you want to bulldoze your own, you’ll find details here.

Wear/Where | Mix and match

Wear Gucci Bag Where Milk Magazine Home

There’s something magic about pulling together a look that feels a bit off-kilter, yet wouldn’t-change-a-thing perfect. Bonus points when it looks so, so comfortable. In this case, a low-key take on blush and merlot makes the leap from street style to striking living room.

Wear: Sara Escudero of Collage Vintage on Who What Wear.

Where: Vanessa Boz’s London home in Milk Magazine.

Pinstagram | White dresses and watermelon onesies

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

Park and Fifth Co

Wear white. Trying on bridesmaids dresses at Park & Fifth Co. + a dress that would be like wearing a cloud.

Baby pink

Baby pink. Learning to crawl (on the kitchen floor, no less) + the sweetest, summery-est outfit ever.

Kissa Tanto

Brass tacks. The beautifully decorated Kissa Tanto + a set of lights I could see fitting in beautifully there.

Dining room

Dining set. Elsa and Anna joined us for my book club brunch + a loft where I wouldn’t mind hosting my own brunch.

Olive Oil Cake

Homemade. Quite proud of my olive oil cake (so easy! so delicious!) + a berry crumble I’d love to test.

North Shore and Mountains

Trail running. Racing through the North Shore Mountains as fast as her short legs would carry her + a mountain lake I’d love my legs to hike me to.

Wear/Where | 1980s cool, 1970s glam

Gucci Loafers

black brass chairs

When it comes to foolproof colour combinations, few are as glamourous as black and brass. The 1970s knew it, the 1980s knew it, and now, my friends, we’re getting to know it once again. Sure, it feels understated as an accessory, but boy does it feel bold as part of your decor.

Wear: Black loafers with brass detailing, like those by Gucci as seen on @deborabrosa.

Where: Farrah dining chair, as seen in the Create & Cultivate offices.

Pinstagram | Wrap it up

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

Tshirt and jeans

Jeans and a tee. A graphic t-shirt designed for Easter Seals’ Woman 2 Warrior (which I’ve worked with many times before) + an even more casual take on the jeans a t-shirt look.

Castle

Hideaway. Her favourite spot + what would be my favourite spot to read and hang out.

Goop cookbooks

Goop read. My cookbook collection is rather embarrassing + a radish salad GP would totally approve of.

ornate

Wrought iron. A room divider at The Cross + ornate designs in Barcelona.

Wrapping and wallpaper

Paper party. A creative use of wrapping paper + a creative use of wallpaper.
