Style | Back to high school!

Kelsey Dundon Style Segment

I loved school. I miss school. Everything about it — the new supplies, the locker decorations, the slurpees I used to get on my walk home; I look back on all of it so fondly.

Then there’s the new wardrobe. I don’t remember any of my first-day-back looks, but I distinctly remember a silver headband I wore for grade ten. It was metal. It was shiny. It was painful AF (maybe that’s why it’s the only piece that’s seared into my memory).

Kelsey Dundon Global Back to School

Now, what I’m dying to know is: If you’re going back to high school on Tuesday, do you strategize about what will work best on Instagram, Snapchat or some other social site I haven’t even heard of yet? Or do you plan your outfit for the runway that is your school hallway?

Either way, I highlight three super-stylish trends for back to school in my latest Global TV segment, featuring looks from Forever 21, Old Navy and Guess.

Thanks for having me, Global TV and Metropolis at Metrotown! And thanks for your help, Jerome Insorio and Hayley Hudson!

P.S. Take a look at behind the scenes shots of one of my favourite back to school print shoots, and my very first back to school segment — which also happened to be my very first live segment ever.

Wear/Where | Mix and match

Wear Gucci Bag Where Milk Magazine Home

There’s something magic about pulling together a look that feels a bit off-kilter, yet wouldn’t-change-a-thing perfect. Bonus points when it looks so, so comfortable. In this case, a low-key take on blush and merlot makes the leap from street style to striking living room.

Wear: Sara Escudero of Collage Vintage on Who What Wear.

Where: Vanessa Boz’s London home in Milk Magazine.

Style | Fall’s new details

unnamed-5

This fall feels prettier than most. At least in terms of the clothes. The fabrics are luxe, the colour palettes are rich, the details are extra detail-y.

It all makes for a lovely season, sartorially speaking.

Fall Trends Global TV

In my latest Global Television segment, I share three of the biggest trends you’ll find in stores, featuring looks from Club Monaco, Roots, H&M, Hudson’s Bay, and BCBGMAXAZRIA, all at Metropolis at Metrotown.

Take a look…

Portrait photography strikes me as being very hard. I don’t do it much (unless you count shoving a camera in my babies’ faces) but I imagine it’d be a real challenge to capture your subject in a natural, expressive pose that actually conveys whatever it is you need that portrait to convey.

Julie Ansiau Photography

That’s why I find Julie Ansiau’s work so compelling. The French photographer’s portraits are lovely. She captures such creative people in their beautiful spaces in a way that reminds me of Todd Selby. And everyone is so effortlessly chic — her portfolio is filled with as much style and decor inspiration as it is photography inspiration.

Style | Beautiful, beautiful fall trends

H&M handbag fall 16

It’s everyone’s favourite fashion season, isn’t it? Seriously, ask around. I’m willing to bet everyone will tell you they love fall the most. Maybe it’s the lingering effects of back-to-school outfits? Or maybe it’s the prospect of putting on clothes you’re not going to sweat right through five minutes into your day? Who knows.

What I do know is I’ve got a ton of beautiful fall pieces to share tomorrow morning on Global BC. Set your PVR, mom!

Style | Trends that travel

Kelsey Dundon at Global Television

I have a confession to make: I am by no means a sleek packer. I take the biggest suitcase I’m allowed and I stuff it with everything I could possibly need. So as my doctor once told me: do as I say, not as I do.

Kelsey Dundon Global BC Television

For my latest style segment on Global Television I talked trends that travel, featuring looks from Joe Fresh (at Superstore), Plenty, and Winners.

Pinstagram | White dresses and watermelon onesies

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

Park and Fifth Co

Wear white. Trying on bridesmaids dresses at Park & Fifth Co. + a dress that would be like wearing a cloud.

Baby pink

Baby pink. Learning to crawl (on the kitchen floor, no less) + the sweetest, summery-est outfit ever.

Kissa Tanto

Brass tacks. The beautifully decorated Kissa Tanto + a set of lights I could see fitting in beautifully there.

Dining room

Dining set. Elsa and Anna joined us for my book club brunch + a loft where I wouldn’t mind hosting my own brunch.

Olive Oil Cake

Homemade. Quite proud of my olive oil cake (so easy! so delicious!) + a berry crumble I’d love to test.

North Shore and Mountains

Trail running. Racing through the North Shore Mountains as fast as her short legs would carry her + a mountain lake I’d love my legs to hike me to.

P.S. There are more photos where these came from so follow @KelseyDundon on Instagram and Snapchat.

Style | When styling becomes shopping

Plenty shoes

Often when I’m pulling for a segment I have tunnel vision — I am looking for such specific pieces to fit such a specific story that I don’t even consider the fact that I could technically buy the pieces I’m pulling. I compartmentalize things; I’m never shopping when I’m styling.

So this, this is rare. These shoes would fit so perfectly into my lifestyle, so beautifully with my wardrobe, that I am very tempted to get them. They’re from Plenty at Metropolis at Metrotown, by the way. More on my segment (it’s all about trends that travel) coming up!

Wear/Where | 1980s cool, 1970s glam

Gucci Loafers

black brass chairs

When it comes to foolproof colour combinations, few are as glamourous as black and brass. The 1970s knew it, the 1980s knew it, and now, my friends, we’re getting to know it once again. Sure, it feels understated as an accessory, but boy does it feel bold as part of your decor.

Wear: Black loafers with brass detailing, like those by Gucci as seen on @deborabrosa.

Where: Farrah dining chair, as seen in the Create & Cultivate offices.

Diary | Roaming the Streets with Surreal Theatre

Surreal Theatre Gastown Vancouver

The last show I saw in a theatre was Raffi (ha!). It had been a while since I’d been to the theatre theatre. Until last night, when I went to the theatre, it just wasn’t, you know…in a theatre.

Vancouver fountain

Surreal Theatre is set in the streets of Gastown, a favourite neighbourhood among Vancouverites and tourists alike. Although the play isn’t just set there, it actually takes place there — on the sidewalks and crosswalks and action-packed alleys.

It started in a courtyard where the audience gathered alongside the actors…

Who needs red velvet seats? Surreal Theatre takes place on the streets in Gastown.

A video posted by Kelsey Dundon (@kelseydundon) on

…and then we roamed the streets like a big theatrical tour group (snapping as we went) while the characters debated love, childhood nicknames and apps.

unnamed-4

The show ended, much as it started, on the street. (Last night was the play’s premier so there was a ton of media in the 25-person audience, like Dana Gee, pictured above.)

Bauhaus Vancouver

Since we were on the outskirts of Gastown, we went for an after-show cocktail at Bauhaus, something I definitely did not do after that Raffi show.

Thanks for having me, Surreal Theatre!
